SELMA, AL (WSFA) -
The Selma Police Department has arrested and charged a local resident with attempted murder following a shooting Wednesday afternoon.
William Craig, Jr., 53, of Selma, now faces an attempted murder charge in connection with a shooting that happened around 2:15 p.m. in the 800 blk. of L.L. Anderson Avenue.
Witnesses told Selma police investigators that Craig drove up in a white Jeep, got into a verbal argument with the victim, a 35-year-old man. The witnesses say the altercation became physical and Craig then shot the victim before fleeing the scene.
Craig was later picked-up by officers at his home on Tremont Street.
As detectives looked further into the case, they found what they believe to be the motive for the shooting. It's believed the shooting was in reference to Craig having knowledge of the victim's criminal activity and that Craig had told residents in the community that the victim was the offender in a ring of thefts.
Craig is being held at the Dallas County Jail with a bond of $500,000.
