BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – It's a true story of grace and redemption; the happy ending to a story we first brought to you back in March of this year.

BACKGROUND

Tara Johnson was arrested and charged with one count of cruelty to animals and one count of abandonment of an animal. The Australian/Shepherd mix named Springer, was found in a wire crate, severely dehydrated and malnourished, and unable to move his back legs. The dog was taken and placed in the protective care of Lt. Tommy Tolley.

[Click here to see photos of the dog after it was found. WARNING: You may find some of the images disturbing.]

ADOPTION

Lt. Tolley, director of the Brunswick Co. Animal Protection Services, adopted Springer nearly seven months after he was saved from terrible living conditions. Tolley had to wait this long to formally adopt the dog because it was still being held as court evidence. The dog regained its strength at the Brunswick County animal shelter during that time, and was fully rehabilitated.

As you can tell by the pictures, both Springer and Tolley are very happy together.
