SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -
Some big changes for local bus services will begin Oct. 7 in Savannah.
On Monday, Chatham Area Transit buses will be rolling out of the new downtown Transit Center, which means a few route changes for commuters.
The ribbon cutting for the new Joe Murray Rivers, Jr. Intermodal Transit Center was held on Friday. What was the Greyhound bus station still is, and much more now that the CAT hub has been added to the fully reshaped complex.
After years of debate and planning over location and design, it's finally complete, and full operation starts Monday. Buses will now leave from the new hub and a new non-stop express service from the Transit Center to the Savannah International Airport will begin.
The following are the service change details effective October 7, 2013:
Route 100X AIRPORT EXPRESS -New express service from the Transit Center to the airport, stopping only at each end for pick up and drop off. Service will run Monday-Saturday, and cost will be the same as regular fixed route.
Route 2 WEST CHATHAM - Service along this route has been redistributed between the new 100X Airport Express and extended routing on the renamed 3A Augusta Ave.
Route 3 WEST CHATHAM - Renamed service to reflect combination of former 2 and 3A routes. Service of West Chatham area to include Augusta Ave, Bourne/307, Crossroads Pkwy, Jimmy Deloach Pkwy, Highlands Blvd, and Benton Blvd. Route traveling through the Transit Center.
Route 4 BARNARD - Route traveling through the Transit Center. Service will be Monday-Saturday with some trips to the Walmart on Montgomery Cross Road.
Route 6 CROSS TOWN - Sunday service slightly reduced; no other changes.
Route 12 HENRY - Route combining with Route 24 SSU/Island Towne Centre for efficiency. Service will extend from Hopkins & W. 51st to SSU to the Island Towne Centre. Midday service Monday-Saturday will shift to hour frequency.
Route 13 COFFEE BLUFF - See Route 20 Montgomery/Skidaway Island.
Route 14 ABERCORN - Route traveling through the Transit Center. Sunday and Holiday service to be hourly.
Route 114X ABERCORN EXPRESS -Express service between the Transit Center, Savannah Mall, and the Gateway Park & Ride lot at I-95 & 204. Service will continue to be during peak time in mornings and afternoons Monday-Friday, and cost will be the same as regular fixed route. Stops will only be made at these three destinations.
Route 20 SKIDAWAY ISLAND/COFFEE BLUFF - Renamed service to reflect combination of former 13 and 20 routes. Service to be Monday-Friday, starting at Hodgson Memorial Dr. out to the Landings, back to Hodgson Memorial Dr. and out to Coffee Bluff Marina.
Route 24 Savannah State University/Island Towne Centre - See Route 12 Henry.
Route 29 W. GWINNETT/CLOVERDALE - Route traveling through the Transit Center, weekday service shifting to hourly, and introducing service to Amtrak train station.
CAT SHUTTLE - Service to be incorporated with other downtown circulators.
HOLIDAY SCHEDULES - No changes.
