Police ID woman found dismembered

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

CMPD says a man, labeled a person of interest in the death of a woman found dismembered and left in an SUV, has been found dead.

The woman, identified Tuesday evening as Mara Garcia, 36, was found in the back of an SUV parked at an apartment complex in northeast Charlotte Sunday. Police said her body had been dismembered.

Monday, police released photos of the man, who they called a person of interest in the case, and said they were seeking him in relation to the death.

On Tuesday officers located the man, identified later as Lenin Noel Corea, 29, who they say died from an apparent suicide, at his apartment on Blackhawk Road.

Police said Corea and Garcia were in a relationship, and were living together.

The person who initially called 911 about the Garcia's body spoke with WBTV Monday.

She said she doesn't know who is responsible for leaving Garcia's body in the parking lot on Dove Tree Lane in Hidden Valley. She added whoever it is could be crazy and dangerous so she asked not to have her name released.

"I thought I did something good to call the police, but now I'm scared," said the woman.

Sunday, the 911 caller said she was walking with her family by a parked green Toyota 4Runner.

"In my parking lot is a truck. I don't know whose truck, and it's not moving. The truck has something that does not smell good," she told police.

She said she thought the smell could have been from a dead animal. Her husband looked through the window of the SUV and told her something was not good.

"Something, a suitcase, is in there with a tire on the suitcase. He said it smelled it more nasty or something.  And I said ‘I need to call the police,'" she said.

She said once police came to the Dove Tree Lane parking spot, they towed away the SUV without opening it up. Police said after they got it back to headquarters they found Garcia dismembered inside.

Neighbors had lots of questions.

"I don't know if it was something that happened somewhere else and the car was just dropped off here or if it was a resident," said Jaza Casey, who lives nearby, "It's a very uncomfortable feeling."

The 911 caller said the parked SUV had been there since Monday or Tuesday of last week.

If you have any information about this case, you are urged to call Crimestoppers at 704-334-1600.
