BETHESDA, MA (WAFF) -

Lockheed Martin leaders have released a statement saying they will reduce the number of furloughs following Secretary Hagel's announcement.

Since Hagel announced that most of the nearly 400,000 civilian Department of Defense employees were deemed essential for national security, Lockheed Martin leaders announced that they have decided to reduce the number of employees who would be furloughed on Monday.

The release admitted that approximately 2,400 employees will still be unable to work because the civil government facilities that they work at will be closed or the company has received a stop-work order on their program.

Lockheed Martin's release said that out of the 2,400 employees, about 2,100 people work on civilian agency programs and 300 others work on Department of Defense programs. Employees in twenty-seven states will be affected, most of them in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area.

Lockheed Martin leaders said the company will continue to urge Congress and the administration to come to an agreement soon that funds the government.
