OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) -
Call in the goat whisperer to find out how a cute cuddly creature was stolen from an Overland Park farmstead and wound up at a Johnson County high school.
The pranksters may wish they hadn't gotten that goat after they face serious criminal charges including burglary, theft and animal cruelty.
The kid named Kale was stolen from the Deanna Rose Farmstead. According to the Overland Park Police Department blog, Kale was found Sunday at Blue Valley High School.
"The goat was found to be actually stuck in a fence and had to be freed. No, not secured in a fenced in area. Stuck - in a fence," the blog read.
Someone left a pan water for the goat, but Kale didn't have any food.
Once Kale was extricated, a farmstead employee retrieved Kale. Kelly Jackson said she was stunned to see the stray goat was one of the farmstead's goats.
She said she immediately recognized Kale and that Kale recognized her. The goat is one of the more friendly goats at the farmstead, and she was one of the smallest in the pen.
"She had been kind of scared," Jackson said. "She was pretty happy to see me. She cuddled up next to me."
Kale, a nearly 2-year-old pygmy goat, is back in her pen and doing well.
But this doesn't have a totally kid-friendly ending. Police Chief John Douglass admitted the caper is a bit funny, but he said the Overland Park Police Department is actively investigating the case.
"This one doesn't just end with the goat returning home," Douglass wrote. "It will be worked just as any other investigation with officers and detectives reviewing evidence."
Charges are possible.
"This little prank could lead to big trouble for the pranksters. There are some pretty serious crimes that can be attached to this prank," he said. "That might be something to consider before trying this one again."
