LOWNDES CO., AL (WSFA) -

Lowndes County authorities say one horse was euthanized and seven others were seized due to owner neglect.

According to Lt. G. LaShaun Hutson,the owner of the horses contacted a veterinarian about the horses. The veterinarian alerted the authorities after seeing the level of neglect.

Officers responded to a residence in Fort Deposit Tuesday. One horse was euthanized due to its poor health and the other seven were taken into protective custody.

No arrests have been made in the case. The investigation is ongoing.
