Veterans visit traveling memorial in Union Twp.

UNION TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -

Time is running out to see The American Veterans Traveling Tribute.

The tribute arrived in Union Township Thursday featuring a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. The wall is engraved with the names of more than 58,000 Americans who died in the Vietnam War. The tribute also contains memorials to veterans of other wars, as well as police and firefighters who died in the line of duty.

Saturday's guest speaker was Disabled America Veteran's National Commander, Joseph Johnston. Johnston focused on providing service to the nation's fallen and their families.

"Our elected leaders in Washington need to get the message, both Congress and the Executive Branch, that the veterans in this county are not going to stand for that kind of treatment. We hate it," explains Johnston. "I wrote a letter to the president and all members of Congress. I expect them to stand up for veterans because veterans stood up for us. They are the heroes of this country. These people need to get the message loud and clear."

For those who have not had the opportunity to see the original memorial in D.C., or simply would like to pay their respects to all military service members, the tribute will be on display through Sunday. It's free and open to the public at Veteran's Park, located at 906 Clough Pike.

You can read additional information about the tribute here.
