HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
A record check on a woman charged with
reckless murder and DUI has revealed that she was already on probation for a
DUI when the wreck happened that claimed the life of a Decatur man.
This recent DUI charge now brings Jessica
Gatewood to a total of four such charges since 2010. She pled guilty to the
first DUI charge in 2010, and was sentenced to two years probation.
Gatewood was still on probation the second time she was picked up in 2012, when she refused to take a breathalyzer. The third incident came just a few months later, when records show her daughter called police on her for leaving the house drunk. She was pulled over on a suspended license, and tested 1.7 on a breathalyzer - double the legal limit.
Authorities arrested Gatewood for reckless murder and driving under the influence in connection with a fatal wreck on I-565 that happened in September.
Huntsville police arrested 49-year-old Jessica Jean Gatewood, also known as Jessica Lewter, on Friday, according to District Attorney Brian Jones.
The wreck happened Sept. 25 on I-565 near Mooresville while traffic was backed up from another fatal wreck that killed an Athens mother.
Terrell Kent Hollingsworth, 45 of Decatur, was injured when Gatewood's vehicle rear-ended the car he was driving. Hollingsworth died two days later at Huntsville Hospital from his injuries.
Gatewood is being held in the Limestone County Jail.
