BATESVILLE, IN (FOX19) -

The Batesville Police Department is warning residents about reported scammers identifying themselves as Publisher's Clearing House.

Police say they've received several calls about the subjects calling and telling homeowners they've won a large sum of money. As part of the scam, the homeowner is asked to send a money order to a certain location to receive the award.

This is a scam. Authorities point out Publisher's Clearing House will never ask for any money directly to obtain an award from them.

Always be very careful when giving personal information out over the phone.
