TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Toledo police are trying to put the brakes on thieves targeting and ripping off cars in west Toledo.
The suspects are focusing on cars with newer, nicer, flashier rims and tires. Police say over the last six weeks in west Toledo, they have received 13 reports of stolen tires and rims, along with 16 reports of thieves rolling off with the whole car.
Police say most times the criminals jack up the car, remove the rims and tires, then leave. The thefts occur mostly between midnight and 8 a.m. Police say people suffering from insomnia may be able to help put the person or people responsible behind bars.
"If you're up and about, or you get up in the middle of the night to grab a glass of milk, maybe take a look out your window, just to see if you see somebody hanging around any cars. That's how we're going to catch these people," said Sgt. Joe Heffernan.
If you see anything suspicious around your neighborhood, jot down a license plate number or description of the suspect and call CrimeStopper at 419-255-1111.
