TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The Tucson Police Department responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian yesterday afternoon.

The location of the accident was at East Speedway and North Richey.

According to Sgt. Maria Hawke, upon arrival, an adult male was found in the roadway. The male was suffering from serious injuries and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. He was pronounced dead.

The male has been identified as 28-year-old Matthew Bono.

Detectives from the Traffic Investigations Unit responded to the area and examined the roadway evidence as well as conducted various interviews.

The detectives learned that Mr. Bono was crossing East Speedway in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of North Richey. A 1977 half ton pickup truck was traveling eastbound on East Speedway in the middle traffic lane.

The truck struck Mr. Bono as he was crossing the roadway.

Initially, the truck did not stop after striking Mr. Bono. However, a witness to the collision followed the truck and was able to get the attention of the driver.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Edward George, 74-year-old. There were indications that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision. He was arrested and charged with one count of Second Degree Murder, a felony offense.
