Family fondly remembers murder victim

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Friends and family gathered at a spaghetti dinner on Saturday night to remember 23 year-old Jordan Jones.

Ms. Jones was gunned down on Sunday night in her West Toledo apartment.

Money raised will go toward funeral expenses.

"She loved helping people so we wanted to help her out," said Jordan's aunt, Diana Hughes.

They did it with a spaghetti dinner, raffles and silent auction.

Everyone there came to celebrate Jordan's life.

"She was happy. Hard worker. Loved life. Loved people," said Ms. Hughes.

Jordan's cousin Bianca Harris agreed.

"A sweet, loving young lady. She was bright. Hard workers. Extremely hard worker," said Ms. Harris.

Toledo Police have issued an arrest warrant charging 29 year-old Marquis Walker with Jordan's murder.

They say he entered her apartment by force and shot her several times.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Relatives say Walker is an ex-boyfriend of Jordan.

"Senseless. Senseless. Senseless," said her cousin Artis Love of the slaying.

And they can't believe why anybody would want to harm Jordan, who worked as a nurse at a retirement home.

"Because she was Jordan Jones. She was one of a kind. Beautiful young lady. A rose from God," said Mr. Love.

The funeral for Jordan Jones is Wednesday.

Deadly virus threatens local crawfish industry

A deadly virus is threatening the crawfish industry in Southwest Louisiana. It's called white spot syndrome virus and it was first discovered in Thailand, but somehow it made its way to ponds in South Louisiana and specialists are struggling to find the funds to research a solution.  “The catch was increasing and increasing and then it dropped 70% and that's when you saw the dead crawfish floating in the water,” said a crawfish farmer of 34 years, Ian Garbarino.
