UPDATE: Josh Hargis and father reunite in hospital

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

The father of a local soldier whose unconscious salute went viral says his son is in great spirits.  Jim Hargis says his son is doing better everyday.

Twenty-four year old Josh Hargis lost both of his legs when an improvised explosive device blew up near him in Afghanistan earlier this month.  Four others were killed.

He was awarded a purple heart while in the hospital. Those in the room assumed the Army Ranger was unconscious, but then he saluted.  The photo of that salute went viral.

Josh is a Dater High School graduate. Hargis' father, Jim Hargis, has shared with us several photos of his son.
