Arizona congressional candidate Adam Kwasman has a form of slow-growing blood cancer but has no plans to drop out of the race for a congressional seat.
The 31-year-old member of the Arizona House of Representatives from Oro Valley said Thursday he was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia in June 2013. He says he planned on keeping the condition private but is talking now because of rumors that he was sick.
Kwasman says the cancer was caught very early, won't require treatment for about a decade and is an entirely manageable disease.
Kwasman is running in the Republican primary for the 1st Congressional District seat now held by Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick. He faces Arizona House Speaker Andy Tobin and rancher and businessman Gary Kiehne in the Aug. 26 primary.
