BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office is investigating a murder-suicide that left a woman and her mother dead.

Karen Diamond, 47, allegedly shot her mother, Eula Diamond, 84, and dog before turning the gun on herself.

The incident happened Monday around 2:20 p.m.

It happened in the 7800 block of Willow Grove Blvd, which is just off Perkins Rd. between Bluebonnet Blvd. and Siegen Ln.

According to deputies, EBRSO received a call from a friend of the victim requesting that officials check on her.

Diamond practiced gastroenterology at Baton Rouge General from August 2012 to July of this year.  

A hospital spokesperson told 9News, "We are very, very saddened to learn about the tragedy and our deepest sympathies go out to the Diamond family and its loved ones."

The investigation is ongoing.
