75 arrested for underage drinking party

SORRELL, LA (WAFB) -

According to the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office, there were a total of 75 arrests made this weekend all connected to an underage drinking party.

The party was Saturday night in the 6100 block of Dolly's Lane in Sorrento, LA. According to reports, a 15-year-old called her mother to pick her up from the party because of the nature of the gathering and the underage drinking. The mother then called the Sheriff's Office.

When deputies arrived, there were about 40 vehicles parked outside the house and empty beer cans on the ground. Before the deputies could secure the area, they say several teenagers ran into the wooded area near the house. The owners of the home were out of town and were notified. The teenagers ranged from 15 to 18 years old.

Deputies found a "large amount" of alcoholic beverages inside the garage and home.

Here is the breakdown of charges:

Eight 18-year-olds were issued tickets for contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

Twenty eight 17-year-olds were issued tickets for possession of alcohol by a person under the age of 18.

Deputies issued tickets to eight 18-year-olds for contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. Thirty nine juveniles were arrested and charged with possession of alcohol by a person under the age of 18.

The juveniles were released to the custody of their parents or guardians.

Deputies arrested the juveniles due to an Ascension Parish ordinance that took effect in May 2013. The ordinance prevents minors from being in possession of alcohol on private property unless they are in the presence of a legal guardian, parent, grandparent or "someone over 30 years of age with whom the underage person has established a significant relationship by blood, adoption or infirmity."
