(WMC-TV) - A Hollywood heavyweight is coming to Memphis with the goal of helping an injured marine build a new home so that he can live a more independent life.

On November 1, actor and musician Gary Sinise will perform a concert to raise money to build a home for Corporal Christian Brown, a Munford Marine who earned a purple heart and silver star while serving in Afghanistan.

"We want everybody in the Memphis area to show their support for Christian and help us raise the money to build him a home," said Gary Sinise.

You may remember Sinise from playing the character of Lieutenant Dan in Forrest Gump. He is bringing his Lt. Dan Band to Memphis Cook Convention Center to raise money for Cpl. Brown, who lost both of his legs in the war.

Every penny raised at the concert will go toward building Cpl. Brown a new, accessible home.

For Sinise, his involvement with veterans groups date back 30 years.

"I have Vietnam veterans in my family, got involved in veteran groups in the 80s in the Chicago area," he explained. "Was able to partner up with the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Tower Foundation including Building for America's Bravest program."

Corporal Christian Brown was nearly killed in December 2011 when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off in Afghanistan.

"I knew things were gonna be definitely different and in my consciousness, I knew I'd never the same," said Cpl. Brown.

Corporal Brown earned the Silver Star and Purple Heart and now, several national veteran organizations are trying to raise money to build him a smart home so that he can live a more independent life as a double amputee.

"They are most catastrophically injured veterans and we know that it's our responsibility to take care of them and that's why we're doing this fundraiser effort across the country," said Chris Kuban, Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

A specially outfitted home for Corporal Christian Brown costs about $500,000.

"I'm very much looking forward to coming there," said Sinise. "We want everyone to come out to the convention center on Friday, November 1 to support Christian and hear some great music and have a great time and it's for a worthy cause."
