"For us, people from Alabama State and A&M, classic it is. There's nothing like it," said Alabama A&M grad Douglas Parnell.
Parnell says the Magic City Classic has been yearly tradition since he was a kid. His family got here 5 days before the game to get in line with their RV, because spots are limited outside the stadium.
"We wanted to get a decent spot to park and tailgate," said Parnell
Parnell is not alone; dozens and dozens of RV's and other vehicles are lined up to get inside.
"I love the classic, one of the biggest events city has," said Brandon Crews.
But crews says there is one thing he does not look forward to every year. He lives in the neighborhood next to Legion Field. Every year, the city blocks streets there and parking passes are issued to residents.
Crews and others Fox6 spoke with say they are only allowed two passes per household.
"We have four cars. It's too much of a hassle for my grandma, cousin, me and everyone to try to get back and forth to stores. Too much with only two passes per household," said Crews.
Corey Broadnax says it is really big headache when he has house guests who come to town for the weekend.
"So that's hard getting them in the neighborhood, in and out," said Broadnax.
But it doesn't completely ruin their weekend. They say they work around the issue. For people like the Parnells, they are just counting down to Wednesday morning at 8:00 when they can file in, set up, and get the tailgating started.
"I tell people who don't know about the Classic, this is a big family reunion. If we don't win, still have a good time," said Parnell.
Fox6 called the Legion Field office to try to find out why residents only get two passes. We were not able to reach the person who handles the passes.
All of the Magic City Classic activities start on Thursday with a kick-off luncheon at the Sheraton Hotel and an Alumni pep rally at Regions Field. On Friday, Rickey Smiley will do a live broadcast. On Saturday, there is the parade and the big football game. Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m.
