KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A woman who was believed to have important information about a Grandview shooting was found shot to death inside a Kansas City home on Wednesday.

Her aunt said her niece was trying to turn her life around and she fears revenge prompted the shooting.

"You know how revenge works on our streets," Debbie Smith said, adding the shooting could have been drug related. She said she doesn't know for certain and needs answers.

Natasha Lewis, 33, went to a house to visit a friend. The home is in the 3800 block of East 59th Street, which is near Swope Parkway.

When the friend arrived home, she found the front door open and called police, fearing her residence had been burglarized. Instead, officers found the woman shot to death inside.

Lewis was apparently questioned about a shooting that led to a standoff last month in Grandview.

Smith said Grandview detectives contacted her recently in an effort to find Lewis, who they claimed had key information about the shooting in their city.

"They went on to inform me that someone was shot in Grandview eight times and they wanted to question her about it," Smith said. "I gave them her address where she was staying and they spoke to her."

Smith obtained custody of Lewis' 5-year-old son earlier this year while Lewis served nine months in a Kentucky jail for driving under the influence and possession of drugs. Lewis was released three weeks ago.

"She kind of went off course, but that was still no reason for anybody to kill her," Smith said.

Smith said Lewis talked nightly to her son, and Smith doesn't know how to tell him that his mother is dead.

She pleaded for an end to the violence that all too often racks Kansas City's streets.

"These young girls out there having all of these kids. They think everything will be picture perfect, but this is not a picture perfect world. We need them to wake up. We need to stop all these killings," Smith said.

Grandview police declined comment.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
