MARION, NC (FOX Carolina) -

A Marion man has been charged after he scrapped his friend's van, according to McDowell County deputies.

Phillip Dale, 30, was charged with felony larceny of a motor vehicle and obtaining property under false pretense, deputies said.

Dale told his friend that he would tow his broken-down 1993 Chevy Astro van, but Dale then brought the van to the scrap yard and sold it for $410, deputies said.

Deputies said the van was valued at $1,000.
