NKC bakery owner thankful no injuries after car slams into wall

A car crashed into a North Kansas City bakery Thursday morning.

A customer arrived at Judi's Bakery Cafe & Coffee Shop at West 13th Avenue and Burlington Street about 6:15 a.m. to pick up some baked goods to take into work.

The woman, driving a Honda sedan, thought she was breaking to park.

According to the bakery's owner, Judi White, she hit the gas instead and plowed five feet into the building. The driver was not hurt.

Fortunately, no employees were working in that part of the bakery because there was no bread production scheduled for the day.

If bread production had been scheduled, White said at least three employees may have been hurt.

"It's just brick and mortar and glass. That can be replaced," White said.

She expects insurance to cover the cost of repairs and will remain open. The wall should be repaired by Monday, but until then, it will be boarded up and only bread production will be halted.

This wasn't the first time White has had to replace that side of the building. She said a few years ago she had to replace the adjoining door after someone crashed into it.
