CHAMBERS CO., AL (WSFA) -

Alabama State Troopers are investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed a 7-year-old Georgia boy. The crash happened around 9 a.m. Thursday on Alabama 50 approximately two miles east of Lafayette. That's in Chambers County.

The child, Jaylen Johnson, of West Point, Ga. was killed when the vehicle left the roadway and overturned. Investigators say Jaylen was not restrained in a safety restraint at the time of the crash.

A preliminary investigation shows that the child unbuckled himself, according to investigators, and the child's mother, Lasonia Johnson, 38, became distracted as she turned her attention to him. Johnson was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
