MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
Officials say there are investigating the city's 18th traffic fatality after a two-vehicle collision.
Montgomery Police and Fire medics responded to I-65 south under the Highway 80 overpass in reference to a crash involving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado and a 2010 Freightliner Series 20 (18-wheeler).
The driver of the Silverado, 22-year-old Wilmer Gene Jackson of Huntsville, was pronounced dead at the scene. The two occupants of the Freightliner were transported to a local hospital for minor injuries.
After an initial investigation by MPD, authorities say the Chevrolet Silverado was traveling south on I-65 when it left the roadway and struck the trailer of the freightliner from behind. The Freightliner was parked on the shoulder of I-65 underneath the overpass.
This investigation is ongoing and further information is available at this time.
This is Montgomery's 18th traffic fatality for 2013.
