Four people were indicted Monday in connection with a statewide theft ring that involved sneaking into big corporations throughout Ohio and stealing employee credit cards left unattended.

According to Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell, the crimes took place at two of the largest employers in Warren County, in addition to several other counties. The suspects stole the cards from purses or wallets left in the employee's desk or office.

Prosecutors say Larry D. Cobb allegedly formed the criminal enterprise in 2012, snuck into the buildings and stole credit cards, cash and other items left unattended.

According to the indictment, he would dress in business casual attire with a blank identification card around his neck and carried a portfolio or briefcase to blend in with other employees.

Cobb and his alleged co-conspirators, Jodie Petty, Deshawn Mitchell and Kristina Petty, then used the stolen credit cards to quickly buy electronics, gift cards and other items they could sell for cash.

The four suspects would typically sell items to individuals or pawn shops, the indictment states. Cobb allegedly paid his co-conspirators a share of the money and kept the rest for himself.

They're accused of using stolen credit cards to obtain approximately $100,000 in merchandise.

"The defendants are accused of operating a criminal enterprise that stole from unsuspecting employees throughout Ohio," Attorney General DeWine said. "More than two dozen different law enforcement agencies investigated these crimes and helped to piece together the bigger picture."

A year-long investigation led to the Warren County Grand Jury indictment.

Larry Cobb faces 17 counts:

  • Engaging in a Pattern of Corrupt Activities
  • Conspiracy to Engage in a Pattern of Corrupt Activities
  • Burglary (nine counts)
  • Money Laundering (five counts)
  • Misuse of Credit Cards

Jodie Petty faces eight counts:

  • Engaging in a Pattern of Corrupt Activities
  • Conspiracy to Engage in a Pattern of Corrupt Activities
  • Receiving Stolen Property (five counts)
  • Misuse of Credit Cards

Deshawn Mitchell faces eight counts:

  • Engaging in a Pattern of Corrupt Activities
  • Conspiracy to Engage in a Pattern of Corrupt Activities
  • Money Laundering (five counts)
  • Misuse of Credit Cards

Kristina Petty faces seven counts:

  • Conspiracy to Engage in a Pattern of Corrupt Activities
  • Money Laundering (four counts)
  • Misuse of Credit Cards

The case was investigated by more than 25 law enforcement agencies across Ohio with assistance from the Warren County Prosecutor's Office and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
