FORT RUCKER, AL (WSFA) -
Fort Rucker says it will train fewer Aviation Soldiers in the coming year as a result of budget reductions.
The reduction comes as the Department of the Army continues to determine where cuts will be made due to declining budgets. Fort Rucker says the reductions will affect the number of student pilots trained for fiscal year 2014.
Fort Rucker officials say the budget decrement will total more than $138 million dollars. That figure is the result in a decrease in the number of Aviation Soldiers trained by approximately 20 percent.
Authorities say, at this time, the number of Department of the Army civilians is not expected to change.
"Obviously a decrease in student training will have an impact across the spectrum of training here, both initial entry and advance aircraft training," Fort Rucker officials said in a news release. "However, the graduate level courses such as Instructor pilot and Maintenance Test Pilot, etc. have not been affected."
WSFA 12 News reporter Hannah Lane is following the developments of this story and will have the latest on First at Four.
