Armed men rob Burger King, developmentally disabled customer

Police are looking for the gunmen who robbed a fast-food restaurant in Overland Park and two customers, including a developmentally disabled customer.

Two men armed with handguns entered the Burger King at College Boulevard and Antioch Drive at 10 p.m. Saturday.

Tom Taylor's son had stopped to grab a bite at the restaurant when the masked men burst in. They targeted Taylor's son and another customer.

KCTV5 is not identifying Taylor's son by name since no arrests have been made.

Taylor said he and his wife had always told his son to give up property and not resist.

"He did what he was suppose to. I'm glad he did," Taylor said. "I'm glad they just took the money and got the heck out of there."

Still the incident has traumatized the young man.

"I felt bad for him. There's not a whole lot I can do other than tell him there are people in this world who will bad things and you can't escape it," Taylor explained. "He did the right thing and I'm proud of him. He was scared to death."

Thankfully no one was injured. If you have any information, call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS. Police are in the process of reviewing surveillance video of the time of the robbery. Police say rarely are customers targeted.
