GREENVILLE, AL (WSFA) -

Greenville High School will have to forfeit three victories won in the 2013 football season, according to the Alabama High School Athletic Association.

The AHSAA says the school is also being fined and will be placed on probation for a year following a violation of the AHSAA Academic Rule. The probationary period serves as a warning that other violations could bring more sanctions against the school.

Greenville High self-reported the violations after learning that an academically-ineligible student was allowed to play in several football games. As a result, any game the student played in will have to be forfeited.

The ineligible player was on the field in the Tigers' winning games against Class 5A, Region 3 opponents Citronelle (21-14), Satsuma (47-13) and Sumter Central (35-0), according to the AHSAA.

Officials say the student in question did not play in the team's region win over Demopolis so that win will remain intact.

Greenville's overall football record for the season now stands at 1-8.

The student is not identified.
