NEW YORK (NY1/CNN) - The New York City Marathon has kicked off and security has stepped up.
An estimated 47,000 runners are participating in the race Sunday.
They'll run through five boroughs with extra security all along the route.
New York police say at least 1,500 cameras are positioned along the course to keep an eye on the race.
Officials are also using bomb-sniffing dogs, baggage screenings and surveillance helicopters.
Several marathon races have increased security in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombing.
