KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

The president of the Kansas City Board of Education says he has no excuse after a warrant was issued for his arrest after he failed to deal with driving violations.

Airick West paid his fines on Monday after the arrest warrant became public.

West, who joined the school board five years ago, said it was a mistake on his part and he offered no excuses.

In September, West was driving in Lake Lotawana in Eastern Jackson County. He was pulled over and ticketed for driving with expired tags and no insurance.

He was given a court date, but he did not show up. Lake Lotawana police then issued an arrest warrant on Oct. 22.

When KCTV5's Amy Anderson reached out to West, he said he had "no good excuse." He said he realizes that he has brought embarrassment to Kansas City Public Schools.

"There's nothing to say," West said, adding that he wants to move ahead and put the legal matter behind him.

A representative for KCPS Superintendent Stephen Green said he would have no comment on a personal matter involving a board member.

"Mr. West's legal concerns are not related to KCPS in any way other than his position as a member of the school board," the district representative said.

The story was reported initially on a local blog, TonysKansasCity.com.
