LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The 550-foot "High Roller" observation wheel along the Las Vegas Strip received four more passenger pods Thursday, a day after the first of the cabins was attached in a record-breaking achievement.

On Wednesday, the first of 28 cabins was placed on the wheel and rotated to its mid-point, officially making it the world's tallest observation wheel, according to the attraction's owner Caesars Entertainment.

When complete the wheel, located in the heart of the Strip, will be able to hold 40 people in each of the cabins.

Although the warehouse where the 22-ton pods are stored is only 10 miles from the construction site, the trip takes two hours to complete. Trucks and trailers, escorted by the Nevada Highway Patrol, navigate the streets of Las Vegas late at night to avoid tying up traffic.

Officials said the trek will continue until all of the pods are attached to the wheel.

"Really, everyday from here on out, every work day, we'll be putting both the cabin legs and the cabin on," said Linq Executive Project Director David Codiga. "So, we're going to continue to feed the wheel with four or five cabins a week, and putting them up one day at a time."

The "High Roller" anchors The Linq entertainment district. The $550 million retail, dining and entertainment district is expected to employ 1,500 permanent positions upon its opening later this year.
