TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A man accused of running away with his 1-month-old boy and trying to take him to Mexico is in the Pima County Jail in Ajo.

Mesuit Guler is charged with being a fugitive of justice, and this morning a judge ordered he be held without bond.

Guler was taken into custody by Border Patrol at the Lukeville port of entry after being stopped by Mexican authorities yesterday.

His son's mother says Guler fled from California with the boy on Tuesday.

According to police, he told his wife he was taking the baby to New York and threatened to kill himself and the child if she called police.

An Amber Alert was issued and a nationwide search was triggered.

Guler managed to get past customs and border agents at Lukeville before being stopped in Mexico.
