DHS awards $3.5 million to AL health care centers

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is awarding more than $3.5 million in Affordable Care Act funding to support health care centers in Alabama.

Department Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said Thursday that the funding will help expand the delivery of health care services in the state, which is expected to impact more than 20,700 Alabamians. Officials say the funding is expected to support five health care centers in Alabama.

Sebelius says the funding is part of a national pool of about $150 million being used to expand services at 236 health care centers nationwide.

Sebelius says the state's health care centers are "key partners in the implementation of the Affordable Care Act," and expanding the delivery of health care service will increase access for those who need it.
