MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Auburn University at Montgomery's "silver fox" – head men's basketball coach Larry Chapman – will retire at the end of the season.

Chapman is in his 37th season with the Warhawks, and has amassed a 671-434 record. His career record is 705-477, ranking him fifth in career victories among NAIA coaches and among the top 40 for all collegiate coaches, according to AUM.

Chapman was named the NAIA's Coach of the Year after the 1987-88 season when his team posted a 32-3 record and reached the national championship game. Chapman coached 11 teams that qualified for the NAIA National Tournament.

Chapman has led AUM to win championships in the Southern States Athletic Conference, the Georgia-Alabama-Carolina Conference, the Southeast Independent Region and NAIA District 27.

"Larry has been the face of AUM basketball for the past four decades," said AUM Athletics Director Steve Crotz in a news release. "I want to thank Larry for all he has done on and off the court for AUM Athletics and the men's basketball program. Larry has made such a positive impact on the lives of countless men over his tenure. Larry Chapman is, and always will be, the name associated with Auburn University at Montgomery men's basketball."
