Scammers claim to be with Rep. Sewell's office

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Congresswoman Terri Sewell is warning constituents about scammers claiming to be with her office.

Sewell says there are multiple reports of individuals illegally soliciting funds from people with the promise of reopening USDA farmer discrimination cases.

Local law enforcement reported that some of the individuals are claiming to be with Rep. Sewell's office. Sewell says the claims are false and the settlement process has ended.

"The fact is that the Black, Native American, Hispanic and Women Farmer Lawsuits have been adjudicated. No more claims in these lawsuits can be filed and there are currently no plans to provide additional settlement," Sewell said in a news release.

If you are solicited by someone offering this type of assistance, notify local law enforcement and contact Sewell's Birmingham office at 205-254-1960.
