PEORIA, AZ (CBS5) -

A man who spent more than three months in the hospital recovering from severe burns in a Peoria house explosion is going home.

Beau Zimbro, 32, was burned over nearly 70 percent of his body and in a coma for most of his hospital stay but he is expected to make a full recovery.

Zimbro's girlfriend, Tiara Del Rio, 21, suffered third-degree burns to half of her body when their home on Cholla Street exploded in mid-October while they were both inside.

The burn center at Maricopa Medical Center held a news conference on Friday where Zimbro spoke about his recovery.

"Overall, I feel great that I finally kind of get to take the next step in my rehabilitation," Zimbro said.

He said he's looking forward to being home and spending time with his daughter and his girlfriend.

"I'm just so grateful that I'm here for it. I have so many people to thank. (Without them) I couldn't be this far, I'd be dead," Zimbro said.

He thanked the Peoria Police Department, his doctors, his friends and his family for their support.

"Without them I wouldn't be here, I have strong backing with the love they give me and help which makes everything so much easier," Zimbro said.

Del Rio was previously released from the hospital and the couple will continue to have rehabilitation.

"I stay positive through it all knowing that every day is another step up in getting better," Zimbro said.

In November, CBS 5 News spoke with Michelle Pesquera, Del Rio's godmother, who was holding a fundraiser for the couple.

"Tiara took some steps two days ago so she's starting to walk," Pesquera said. "Beau is getting better as well."
