Driver flees after hitting mailbox, pole and house

DEFIANCE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Officers are searching for a man who fled the scene of a Defiance County crash early Sunday morning.

According to troopers with the Defiance State Highway Patrol Post, the crash occurred around 5 a.m., on State Route 111, about a half mile north of the Defiance/Paulding County line.

State Troopers say Johnny G. Rakes, 37, was driving northbound when he went off the side of the road, striking a mailbox, a utility pole and a house.

Troopers say Rakes was driving a 2006 Chrysler 300, and he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck.

The vehicle was heavily damaged. Authorities say Rakes took off on foot.

Rakes was last seen heading southbound on SR 111, wearing a red Coca Cola shirt and blue jeans.

His whereabouts are currently unknown.

Anyone with information on where Rakes could be is asked to call the Ohio State Highway Patrol at 419-784-1025.
