MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Living with diabetes can be a life-changing condition and education is key to living life to the fullest. That was the message from celebrity chef and diabetes advocate Charles Mattocks Tuesday during a visit to the capital city.

Mattocks, also known as The Poor Chef, is the author of Eat Cheap but Eat Well. He's cooked on numerous national shows and networks. He's also the nephew of the late Bob Marley.

Mattocks made a stop at Jackson Hospital on the last leg of his tour across the South.

"It's really, at the end of the day, we all know what we should and shouldn't be eating and what we should and shouldn't be drinking," Mattocks said. "It's really about education and inspiration. So these people are getting a message from us being on the road that they may not even get from their own doctors."

The chef became involved in raising awareness of the disease when he was diagnosed three years ago.
