Family identifies man killed by falling tree in Montgomery Co.

MONTGOMERY CO., AL (WSFA) -

Family members of a man who was killed Wednesday afternoon in a Montgomery County accident are identifying their loved one.

Samuel "Sammy" L. Pierce, 64, died after a tree he was cutting down fell onto him near Alexander Road in Waugh. 

When investigators arrived on the scene they found Mr. Pierce's body. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Mr. Pierce was a retired lineman who spent 35 years working for Alabama Power, according to his daughter, Kamare' Pierce.

Pierce, a Vietnam veteran, was also a former assistant coach for Evangelist Christian Academy, his daughter said.

Mr. Pierce's funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 27 at Hutchinson Missionary Baptist Church at noon.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria "Jean" Pierce, and four children.
