Alabama Supreme Court dismisses lawmakers from Accountability Act lawsuit

The Alabama Supreme Court issued a ruling to dismiss four lawmakers from a lawsuit filed in response to the Alabama Accountability Act.

The lawsuit accused Senators Del Marsh and Gerald Dial and Representatives Jay Love and Chad Fincher of violating the Open Meetings Act when they made revisions to the House Bill 84. That revision included changing the name of the bill to the Alabama Accountability Act.

The Alabama Supreme Court ruled that the legislators are "immune from suit regarding acts undertaken within the sphere of legitimate legislative activity".

The ruling also states legislature is not required to conduct meetings in public.
