Court documents: Fmr. Tallassee asst. police chief stole handgun

We now know more of the details on the arrest and allegations surrounding former Tallassee Assistant Police Chief Chris Miles.

According to court documents, Miles is accused of stealing a 9mm Beretta handgun from the evidence Locker at the Tallasee Police Department in May.

Miles was arrested Friday and charged with theft in the second degree.

The charges are being brought by the Alabama Bureau of Investigations.

Miles, who is no longer with the Tallassee Police Department, is under fire following allegations that he tampered with evidence, coerced witnesses and intimidated fellow police officers in the case of an alleged child sexual predator.

More than 100 charges against the suspect, Stephen Conrad, were subsequently dropped.

Bond for Miles was set at $15,000. He immediately paid the fee and bonded out of jail.
