SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Members of the Savannah Chatham Metro Police Department and Savannah Fire and rescue faced off in their Annual Turkey Bowl on Saturday.

They played a flag football game in support of the United Way of the Coastal Empire and the Social Apostolate of Savannah.

Players say it's a great way to have some fun, and collect cans and donations to help fellow community members in need this holiday season.

"This is so very important for the folks in this community who don't have food on the table this time of the year. folks who need a hot meal, who need a place to go and just be able to love each other, love the Lord, love this community and for the friends and family who are here this is an awesome event." said Mjr. Larry Branson.

No word on who came out on top, but either way, the families who receive those canned goods will certainly be the winners.
