BURLINGTON, CT (WFSB) -

Dr. William Petit and his wife, Christine, welcomed a new addition to their family this weekend.

Christine Petit, who is a professional photographer, had a healthy baby boy named William, a family member told Eyewitness News.

William Petit and his entire family were tortured at their home in Cheshire on July 23, 2007.

Two men, Steven Hayes and Joshua Komisarjevsky, killed his wife, Jennifer Hawke-Petit, and his two daughters, Hayley and Michaela.

Hayes and Komisarjevsky were both sentenced to death, and both their attorneys have filed appeals.

Eyewitness News spoke exclusively with the Petits over the summer about the big news that they were expecting.

The Petits said they wanted to be surprised about the gender.

William Petit is running the Petit Family Foundation created to honor the great work and memories of Hawke-Petit, Hayley and Michaela.

The Petits will also be celebrated their first wedding anniversary on Aug. 5.
