LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

One person is dead and four others wounded after an attack at the Ambulatory Surgery Center at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview on Tuesday morning.

Longview police responded to a stabbing at the hospital in Longview just before 7 a.m.

According to Longview police spokesperson Kristie Brian, a nurse died and a male visitor is in critical condition. Three others were injured but are in good condition. Of the five, three of the injured were visitors to the hospital

The suspect, identified as Kyron Rayshawn Templeton, 22, of Longview, fled the scene but was taken into custody a short while later on Sixth Street in Longview. There was a scuffle during his arrest, but no officers were injured. The weapon used in the attacks, a knife, was located and taken to the police department. A warrant has been secured to obtain the suspect's DNA to see if he can be placed at the scene of the crime.

Hospital CEO Steve Altmiller calls the attack an isolated incident and praised hospital security and Longview police for their quick response.

"This was an isolated incident. It was diligently handled by the Longview Police Department and the Good Shepherd Response Team," said Altmiller.

Hospital staff will review surveillance video and turn it over to Longview police.

The nurse who died was identified on Tuesday in an e-mail from Altmiller as Gail Sandidge.

"Today, in a place of healing, our medical community had to quickly move from caring for others to caring for us," wrote Altmiller. "May this help each and every one of us as we remember we are a place of hope and healing.  God Bless Gail, her family and all of us."

Sandidge died at 9 a.m., according to Gregg County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Talyna Carlson.

Templeton was arraigned Tuesday afternoon on one count of murder and four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His bond has been set at $2.6 million. Altmiller says Templeton's mother was a patient at the hospital.

The other victims of the attack have been identified as Karen Bobo, an employee of Good Shepherd, Teresa Allison, Harris Teel and Melissa Sims. Bobo was released from the hospital on Tuesday.

Good Shepherd Medical Center posted the following statement to their Facebook page on Tuesday:

"During today's tragic event one of our valued employees lost her life. Please join us at 3 p.m. today as we take a moment to lift up in our thoughts and prayers the families, employees and visitors affected by today's events. May this help each and every one of us as we remember we are a place ofhope and healing. God Bless us all."

KLTV 7's Shaley Sanders spoke to a family who was at the hospital waiting for their six-year-old girl to have surgery. According to the family, the girl was on a gurney waiting to go in for surgery when they saw a man stab another man outside the room where they were waiting. The family heard screams and a nurse ran out to see what was going on, at which point she was stabbed in the chest.

The witnesses say the man was running around with a hunting knife screaming, "you're not going to kill my mother."

The man looked right at the family before running on, at which point hospital staff began moving patients into rooms with doors that could be locked.

Longview police say the investigation is ongoing.

All surgeries for Tuesday and Wednesday were rescheduled. The main hospital, including the emergency room, continued to operate normally after the attack.

Good Shepherd Medical Center is Longview's largest employer with more than 2,400 employees. It has been in East Texas for over 70 years.
