In an e-mail to staff on Tuesday, Good Shepherd Medical Center CEO Steve Altmiller said that Gail Sandidge, a nurse at the hospital, died. She was stabbed by an assailant at the Ambulatory Surgery Center at Good Shepherd Medical Center. Sandidge died at 9 a.m., according to Gregg County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Talyna Carlson.
Sandidge's sister, Debbie Pritchett, tells KLTV's Melanie Torre that she loved nursing and caring for people. She says that her sister even carried a heavy purse, full of nursing supplies with her at all times just in case she was needed in a medical emergency.
Police say four other victims were injured in the attack - one is in critical condition, the other three in good condition.
In the email, Altmiller asked the Good Shepherd community to take a moment to lift Gail and her family up in their thoughts and prayers.
"Today, in a place of healing, our medical communityhad to quickly move from caring for others to caring for us," wrote Altmiller. "May this help each and every one of us as we rememberwe are a place of hope and healing. God Bless Gail, her family and all ofus."
Sandidge was a 1972 graduate of Henderson High School.
