PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) -

Sources tell News Leader 9 that Dr. Larry DiChiara is no longer superintendent of Phenix City schools after his contract was bought out by the school board.

He's been superintendent for nearly a decade and still had more than four years left on that contract.  DiChiara says he is not taking a job anywhere right now, though he does have several offers on the table.

DiChiara was also named Alabama's Superintendent of the Year in 2012.

We're told Rodney Hinton will serve as interim superintendent immediately.

Board member Fran Ellis says Hinton retired from education a while ago, and the search for new superintendent begins immediately.

This is a developing story, and we will post more information as it becomes available.
