(WMC-TV) - A man battling cancer was attacked. Now police are searching for the two men who left him back in the hospital.
The suspects broke into his home on the 2500 block of Detroit Road in Burlison.
"They just started smacking me. They jerked the door open," said Richard Jones.
The 61-year-old was awakened after a knock on the door of his Tipton County mobile home early Tuesday morning. He opened the door not realizing it was 1:30 a.m. He says two men in ski masks burst in the home.
"He said, 'Where's your wallet? Where's your wallet?' They jerked everything out of the drawers," said Jones.
Jones said they beat him. He says they found his gun and took $1,800 dollars in cash out of his wallet in the bedroom. The money was for bills and medications. Jones says he does not usually keep much cash around.
Jones has lived in this mobile home in Burlison for more than 20 years and has never had any problems. He believes his attackers are young and somehow had knowledge he had cash and a gun.
The retired painter and heavy equipment operator says he has always tried to help people.
"People just ask me and I've always had a good , good heart," said Jones.
He cannot believe someone would do this to him especially just before the Thanksgiving holiday.
"It's sad you know. We have to live in a world where people are so unkind cruel they would treat other human beings," said Jones.
If you have information on this crime then call law enforcement.
