ELKMONT, AL (WAFF) -

Limestone County Sheriff's Department has confirmed that a one-engine plane has crashed in Elkmont.

Sheriff Blakely said deputies got the call around 1:15 p.m. Saturday. Blakely said that a small one-engine plane crashed into a yard and hit the side of a house on County Road 49/Veto Road and Upper Fort Hampton Road, killing the pilot.

Blakely identified the pilot as Nick Loggins, 18. The sheriff said Loggins lived further up Veto Road, and his family had recently purchased the plane.

The owner of the home hit during the wreck was not there at the time. Johnny Lawrence said he found out about the wreck while he was watching a football game with friends.

"She showed me a picture of it and I said, Dear Lord, that is my bedroom window," said Lawrence. "I knew immediately it was my home. I got in the car and rushed over."

Lawrence was stunned to hear about the crash. "My main concern is the distress his mom and dad are probably feeling," said Lawrence, who urged anyone watching to keep them in their prayers.

According to authorities, the plane took off from Pryor Field near Calhoun Community College.

The FAA has been notified, and NTSB will take over this investigation. The cause of the crash has yet to be determined.
