SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Police are investigating a fatal car versus pedestrian crash that happened at about 12:45 p.m. on Sunday.

Sgt. John Delaney of the Springfield Police Department told CBS 3 that a 57-year-old woman from Wilbraham was crossing Allen Street in front of the Family Medical Center.

Delaney said the woman suffered extensive injuries as she was thrown onto the hood and then over the vehicle.

She was taken to Baystate Medical Center and pronounced dead shortly after 2 p.m.

The identity of the woman is being withheld until next of kin are notified.

The driver of the car has not been cited as of this time.

Delaney said this is the third fatal crash in the city in less than a week.
