PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Former Arizona Congressman Ben Miranda died from a heart attack, said his wife, Rep. Catherine Miranda in a statement released Monday morning.

Catherine Miranda, D-Phoenix, said that hypertensive cardiovascular disease resulted in the heart attack that killed her husband Nov. 15.

Funeral services were Nov. 25 for the Phoenix Democrat who served in the Arizona House of Representatives from 2003 to 2010.

"I wish to thank the many people who have given support and prayers to my family," Catherine Miranda said in her statement. "I, too, am sorry for their loss, as I know that my husband Ben touched so many lives. I will continue to work for our community, as I did alongside my husband. Now I will be an even stronger advocate, so that I can truly honor his legacy."
